Richmond G.C. Report

Wow what a day….. The wind blew hard and wind blew strong. View finders shaking everywhere, Flags almost bent double and the cross wind on the par 5, 6th hole had some approach shots to the green aimed left across the adjacent farmers field to try ensure being on in regulation, a feat that proved too much for a few.

17 of us made the trip up the A1 on a cool, howling but thankfully a dry day. A day that saw some play the elements really well and for others I think the less said the better!! It was decided that we would turn the competition around and play the 9 hole morning round as a medal and the afternoon 18 as a stableford. If not, I’m sure some of us would have run out of balls, the sun would have set and the last group would have had to bring in the chickens for the night!! A great day however with 1 player in particular having a super steady 27 holes to take the 2022 Richmond Trophy. The club, as always, presenting the course well with their unbelievably sloping greens, were great hosts and looked after us all really well. “Thanks Amy and your team for looking after us”. One or 2 mentioned the steak pie wasn’t home made as in previous years and this as been fed back to the club. Having said that, the crumble was super & it was still a fantastic value full day out and one worth the whole day away from home. We will be back next year for sure.

Onto the prizes…..

Nearest the pins were only played for in the afternoon and were taken by the following players….

Hole 4 was taken by Dave Saynor.  Hole 7 was a role over to hole 9 as no one hit the green, this was won by Roger Worth. Hole 12 went to James Pickersgill  & Hole 18 was a fine shot by Nigek Owram.

4 players got a 2 and the £17 pot was shared between Dave Saynor, James Pickersgill, Lee Wetherill & Nigel Owram. As I was out of 25p pieces it was decided to pay them £4 each and roll £1 to the next meeting.

The captains Prize was won by Karl ‘spawny’ Clarke. I didn’t see the hots so I couldn’t possibly comment.

Onto the main prizes and the scoring system of a maximum 17 points (winner) running down to 1 (last place) for both rounds saw Dave Saynor finish in 3rd place with 13 in the morning & 13 in the afternoon, equaling 26 points. In 2nd Place with 12&16 (28 points)  was Paul Killburn. The winner of the trophy with a great performance for the whole day was Chris Copestake with 16 & 17 (33 points) which equals to finishing second in the morning and first in the afternoon. Well played in those conditions Chris!

The full breakdown of scores & points are on the handicaps page of the website for your perusal. It took some working out as there were many count backs to be worked out but I got there in the end.

Handicaps….

These were worked out on the afternoon Stableford competition only as it was too complicated to work out over 27 holes and quite frankly I have other things in life to do too!!haha

Bizarrely, out of the 17 players there are 13 changes to handicaps. 7 played well and have seen a cut with 6 of us not playing so well. (did I mention it was breezy!) The buffer zone was 25-31. Updated handicaps are on the relevant page.

Finally onto our next day out which will be at Normanton G.C. on Friday 27th May. Full details are on the events page. This is just 2 weeks away and I’m now wanting to know who is and who isn’t going?? AS ALWAYS CAN YOU PLEASE LET ME KNOW EITHER WAY……it’s frustrating when liásing with clubs who are requesting final numbers if I don’t get any reply from you.

Thanks all,

Hope to see you at Normanton.
