Mel Smart Memorial Report

The Mel Smart Memorial day was held at Wath Golf Club, a new venue for us. I think it’s fair to say the course impressed us all and despite the greens being a bit slow, the course in general was superbly presented, a good challenge with lots of plotting your way around. Thankfully, the recent molten lava weather had a day off and we had a milder day but the sun shone all day and there were some pink arms and legs come the last group holing out on the 18th.

Onto the results.

4 twos were recorded, Stuart Cochrane, Adam Littlewood, Jon Winner & Luke Worrillow.

The par 3 5th & 15th was won by Keith Barnes & the 17th won by Craig Allen.

Finishing 3rd, with a net 73 was Craig Allen

Second, on countback with a net 71, Wayne Jackson

And taking not only the Mel Smart Memorial Trophy, but also the lowest gross score of the day, with a gross 77, net 71 was Adam Littlewood.

A banging round, well done Adam.

The general consensus was to return to Wath next year so I’ll add that to the 2027 list for the AGM, although I will see if the Club will lock in this years price if I book and pay a deposit. Woolley have done so hoping Wath may follow suit.

Next up is the Richmond Trophy, held at Richmond Golf Club. Always a popular day, we will have 3 meals and play a 9 hole medal followed by 18 hole stableford and in a nutshell, the lowest figure (even a minus figure) will take home the trophy. (More headache calculating for me!!!!). I’m limited to 28 spaces for this day so once I open bookings, please get your names down sooner rather than later. Invite for Richmond will go out sometime next week.

Thanks to the 25 who turned out today, your support is very much appreciated & valued.

2026 BRGS Season

Hello

I hope you have managed to get out for some soggy boggy golf over the winter what with this pants weather. Think it’s fair to say the winter has been as bad as last summer was so good. But, Spring is on the way and before you know it, preferred lies will be gone and we’ll be cracking out the shorts again!!

Just wanted t0 update that planning for the 2026 season is nearly complete with 6 out of the 7 days confirmed and I’ve updated the website with most of this seasons fixtures. Some finer details are yet to be ironed out but the dates & venues are locked in. (With one current TBC in August)

The BRGS event calendar has been updated, the only thing that may change is the trophy we play for at the venues. I’ll update these once I’ve taken advice from a couple of the committee.

It’s now just 12 days until our season opener, a ‘Winter Warmer’ at Moortown Golf Club. My gratitude goes to Dan Pennington for getting us such a good deal to play a prestigious course.

I’ll be emailing out the Moortown details in the next couple of days.

So, get your clubs cleaned, your balls cleaned and some practice in ready to go.

Cheers

Pete

2025 Season

Welcome to the upcoming 2025 season.

This season sees a mixture of old favourite courses, a new course and 2 courses that we haven’t been to on a long time.

The website is now fully updated and our first fixture is on the 23rd of April at Scarcroft G.C. Unfortunately I am unable to take anymore reservations at there’s on extra the times available. I will endeavour to make this a one of and will make sure we have enough t the times on the future.

I do hope this season is one of our best yet and is as well, of not better supported, than previous years.

FOR now, keep practicing and I hope to see as many of you as possible over the summer season.

2025 fixtures

The fixtures for the 2025 season are almost complete and can be found in the events section of this website. I will update the Bingley fixture asap.

I will also update the handicap page in due course.

Low Laithes Report

A quick conclusion to the season was upon us in no time after the re arranged fixtures when 15 players turned out to play Low Laithes for the final meeting of 2024 at Low Laithes to play for the AGM Trophy.

The weather saved its best for the last fixture and it was indeed an absolutely stunning calm & sunny day.

The course was is in great condition in the afternoon after the fairway cutting was completed and the scoring showed with another high average of 33 points.

Onto the final winners of the season and there were just 3 par 3’s which were taken by Nick Mcevoy on Hole 4, Richard Teale on Hole 8 and Nigel Owram on Hole 12. There was also two 2’s and these were Nigel Owram & Richard Teale.  All these were in the last group, some group that. (Just saying! Hahahaha)

The top 3 were in the following order …… On 35 points, taking 3rd on a countback whilst staying in the buffer zone was Lee Wetherill.  In 2nd Place with great score of 38 was Aidy Hope and taking the AGM trophy home with him with an absolute super score of 44 points was Karl Clarke. Well played Karl, it was a pleasure to watch.

The AGM took place at lunchtime and has been published via the link below. There were a few different courses mentioned for next year and so I will get on with it in due course and be in touch once there booked and finalised.

Finally,

I will be conducting an email audit to make sure I have correct emails and also to take off anyone who doesn’t wish to receive emails but this will be done after next seasons golf is booked.

That’s it, thanks once again for all your support, it really does make my time and effort worth it. Have a super winter, Christmas & New year

Happy Swinging !
